MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS AND DISQUALIFIERS
- Applicant has high school diploma or GED equivalent.
- Applicant has a valid Texas Driver’s License.
- Applicant has reached a minimum age of 21 years of age (or 21 years of age upon completion of the police academy if hired as a non-certified officer).
- Applicant has not been convicted of any felony or a conviction of a Class A misdemeanor.
- Applicant has not ever been convicted of any Class B misdemeanor in the past ten years.
- Applicant has no admissions of marijuana use within the last one (1) year. This may be waived on a case-by-case basis depending on the age at the time of use and frequency of use.
- Applicant has not been convicted of marijuana use within the past two years.
- Applicant has no admission to or conviction of selling marijuana within the last five years.
- Applicant has admission of using a controlled substance or dangerous drug within the past one (1) year from the date of application. This may be waived on a case-by-case basis depending on the substance used, age at the time of use, and frequency of use.
- Applicant has no admission to the selling of any controlled substance or dangerous drug at any time.
- Applicant has never been convicted of any family violence offense.
- Applicant is not prohibited by state or federal law from possessing firearms or ammunition.
- Applicant does not have Dishonorable, Bad Conduct, or Other Than Honorable Discharge from the United States military.
- Applicant is not under indictment for any criminal offense.
- Applicant is a U.S. citizen.
