POLICE OFFICER SELECTION PROCESS
If you are not certified through TCOLE and are interested in attending the Del Rio Police Academy, we administer a Civil Service Exam multiple times per year. Details of the exam dates, including study sessions, will be posted at Del Rio City Hall when the dates for the exam are announced.

The Del Rio Police Department is currently hiring. The application process takes approximately 30 to 90 days to complete and consists of the following phases.

Obstacle Course

Obstacle #1 Stationary Gate Jump
Applicant will jump over a stationary metal park gate
Obstacle #2 Park Rail Jump
Jump over a park guardrail and continue over a bridge to next obstacle
Obstacle #3 Punching Bag Drill
Obstacle # 4 The Wall
This obstacle requires you to get your body over a 7 foot concrete wall/wire fence
Obstacle #5 Dummy Drag
Successful Completion of the Written and Physical Assessment Exams
- At this point, an eligibility list will be generated and certified by the Civil Service Commission
- The eligibility list will be in rank order by score using the raw score from the written civil service test and any military points that are added if the applicable information is provided to the Human Resource Department.
- The Chief of Police will then begin selecting applicants for background investigations as vacancies occur.
- A Conditional Offer of Employment is given outlining all the steps that must be successfully completed before a Final Offer of Employment is given
- The selected applicants will complete a Personal History packet of information
- A background investigation will be completed
- The Chief will review the applicant files
- If selected, applicants will be granted an interview.
- The applicant must then pass a psychological exam and interview with a selected psychologist, a drug screen, TB skin test and medical exam.
- If successful, the applicant will then receive a Final Offer of Employment.
- If the applicant is a certified officer, they will be hired as such and begin an orientation period before beginning patrol duties with a Field Training Officer.
- If the applicant hired is not a certified officer, the applicant is hired and sponsored in the Del Rio Police Academy. A condition of employment is successful completion of the academy.
